Project title: Insects as novel protein sources for fish and poultry

Project description: Insects are an important part of the natural, evolutionary diet of many species of birds and fish. Main objective of the project will be to investigate the impact of bioactive insect proteins on the results of broiler chickens’ and salmonid fish’ growth performance, digestibility of nutrients and amino acids, metabolic energy availability, as well as the composition and activity of the digestive tract microbiome. Moreover, determination of the impact of insect protein supplementation to broiler chickens’ and salmonid fish diet on the prevalence of potentially pathogenic bacteria will be performed using modern techniques of molecular biology.
